Spicy, zesty, and a whole lot of fun! Alabama Fire Crackers are one of my favorite snacks to make for any occasion. With the perfect balance of heat and flavor, they are always a hit.
Much like my Ranch Oyster Crackers Recipe, these are guaranteed to disappear in no time!
Why I love this recipe
I love how quickly I can prep these crackers, just a few minutes, and they are ready to go! They are always a hit at gatherings, and I can count on everyone loving them.
They are also perfect for making ahead. The flavors improve the longer they sit, making them even better the next day! I like to make a batch on the weekend to pack in school lunches throughout the week.
They are customizable as well! I can adjust the spice level to suit my taste, whether I want it mild or with a serious kick.
Ingredients
- vegetable oil or canola oil
- Ranch dressing mix
- crushed red pepper flakes
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- ground black pepper
- Saltine crackers
Step by step
- In a large zip-top bag, combine oil, Ranch mix, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Shake it to mix well.
- Add Saltine crackers to the bag, seal it, and gently turn or massage the bag to coat the crackers evenly.
- Let the crackers sit for several hours or overnight for the best flavor. In a hurry? Let them rest for 10-15 minutes, spoon the seasoning onto each cracker, and bake.
- Preheat the oven to 250°F. Arrange the seasoned crackers in a single layer on one or more baking sheets and bake for 15 minutes, flipping halfway to ensure even crisping.
- Let the crackers cool completely before enjoying their full crispiness!
Tips for best results
- Use a large zip-top bag: It makes mixing and coating the crackers super easy, preventing any mess.
- Let the crackers sit overnight: If you can, give them time to marinate for the best flavor absorption.
- Flip or stir while baking: This ensures all the crackers bake evenly and get that perfect crispiness.
Variations
If you want a different take, you can try using oyster crackers, Ritz crackers, or club crackers instead of Saltines.
You can also try adding Parmesan cheese or switching the red pepper flakes with Cajun seasoning for a spicier flavor. Or after baking, drizzle honey over the crackers for a perfect blend of sweet and spicy!
Serving suggestions
These crackers are perfect for a variety of occasions. You can pair them with hummus, beer cheese or poolside dip to elevate their flavor. They also complement a bowl of soup, I love them with white chicken chili or broccoli cheese soup especially.
If serving at a party I like to pair them with spicy cocktail peanuts and spicy candied pecans for those that like the heat and also with apps that can balance the spice like smoked salmon dip or homemade guacamole.
Storage
After the crackers have cooled, place them in an airtight container and store them at room temperature. They will stay crispy and fresh for up to a week.
