Why I love this recipe
- with just four ingredients, this simple recipe is a breeze to whip up whenever those guac cravings hit.
- each ingredient shines through, creating a vibrant and delicious dip.
- feel free to adjust the ingredients to suit your taste preferences – it’s versatile like that!
Ingredients
- ripe avocados
- lime
- red onion
- cilantro
- optional add-ins: salt and pepper, diced tomato, diced jalapeño, minced garlic cloves
Step by step
- Cut the avocados in half lengthwise and remove the pits. Scoop the avocado flesh into a mixing bowl using a spoon.
- Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocado until it reaches your desired consistency. Some prefer chunky guacamole, while others prefer it smooth.
- Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice over the mashed avocado. This not only adds a zesty flavor but also helps prevent the avocados from browning.
- Add the finely diced red onion and chopped fresh cilantro to the bowl with the mashed avocado. Stir well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
- Taste the guacamole and add salt as needed to enhance the flavors. Stir again to ensure the salt is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
- Transfer the guacamole to a serving bowl and serve immediately.
Tips for the best results
- Use ripe avocados for the creamiest texture.
- Don’t skip the lime juice – not only does it add flavor, but it also helps preserve the vibrant green color of the avocados. Use fresh lime juice if you have it, otherwise bottled is fine.
- Adjust the amount of salt to your liking, but remember, you can always add more salt later, so start with a little and taste as you go.
Serving suggestions
Now that you’ve got your guac ready to go. Serve it up with some crunchy tortilla chips for a classic combo, or use it as a topping along with pico de gallo or chimichurri sauce for tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, or nachos.
Feeling fancy? Spread it on toast, over cilantro lime chicken, or use it as a burger topping for an extra kick of flavor.
Trust me, you can’t go wrong.
Storage
If you happen to have any leftover guacamole, it’s important to store it correctly to preserve its freshness. Simply transfer it into an airtight container and ensure that a layer of plastic wrap is pressed directly onto the surface of the guacamole. Keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
This method minimizes air exposure, thereby slowing down the oxidation process and maintaining the vibrant green color of your guac for as long as possible.
I do not recommend you freeze guacamole.
