I first shared my easy homemade granola recipe (originally given to me by my mother) here on the blog in 2012 with some woefully horrible pictures. It fell into the cracks of blog archives without the accolades it deserves and today we right that wrong!
This has been my go-to granola recipe since I was in college.
Why I love this recipe
- It is perfect for adding to yogurt for a nice healthy, easy breakfast
- tastes way better than store-bought granola and you can customize it to your taste
- It’s packed with protein and omega-3s!
- it is a great, affordable homemade gift for the holidays, I like to package it up in a mason jar for gifting.
Ingredients
You only need a few simple ingredients for this easy granola recipe!
- Rolled Oats These are also called Old Fashioned Oats. If you want a gluten-free granola, ensure these are certified gluten-free oats when picking the brand. If you use quick oats the cooking time will be slightly faster.
- Honey & Maple Syrup add all-natural sweetness to the mix!
- Oil – vegetable oil, canola oil, melted coconut oil, or avocado oil
- Chopped Walnuts give omega-3s and a nice crunch, substitute your favorite nuts to make this recipe your own.
- Coconut, raisins, and cranberries add natural sweetness to the mix. Again, substitute with your favorite dried fruits to customize your granola!
- Cinnamon, pinch of salt, & vanilla extract flavor this granola recipe to perfection!

I made this for gifts and they loved it!
Try adding apple sauce… helps the granola stick together in clumps
Thanks for the tip Alex, I’ll try that next time!
I love this recipe. But I keep burning it. I am following the directions. I wonder if I should use a lower oven temp? Did you have problems like this when you first did I ths recipe?
Hi Kerri,
I haven’t had an issue with this recipe burning but have with others. I’d recommend lowering your oven temp a little and really keeping an eye on it. Granola tends to have a small window of perfect “doneness” before burning! Hope that helps some!

Yum! I need to try this! Featuring you today! XO, Aimee
I’ve been looking for a good granola recipe. This looks really good! Have you ever tried it without the coconut? Was wondering if it misses some of the flavor or if it is just as good.
Oh, this looks so yummy! I love granola. I’m pinning this.
