Why I love this recipe
- perfect for parties, potlucks, or a casual weeknight dinner.
- can make a big batch and freeze them for later!
- the combination of honey, BBQ sauce, and Sriracha creates a mouth-watering taste.
Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
- ground beef
- egg
- breadcrumbs
- onion
- garlic
- parsley
- salt
- honey BBQ sauce
For the Sauce:
- bbq sauce
- honey
- sriracha sweet chili sauce
Step by step
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Cover a baking tray with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent the meatballs from sticking.
- To make the sauce, mix the BBQ sauce, honey, and Sriracha sauce in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval, until well combined. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and prepared honey BBQ sauce. Mix well with your hands until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Form small meatballs with the meat mixture and place them on the prepared baking tray.
- Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for approximately 12 minutes. At the 6-minute mark, flip them over to ensure they brown evenly on all sides.
- Once the meatballs are cooked and golden brown, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a large bowl.
- Pour the BBQ Honey Sriracha sauce over the meatballs and gently toss to coat them evenly with the sauce.
- Serve the meatballs on individual plates or on a large platter for sharing, and enjoy them as an appetizer alongside your favorite accompaniments.
Tips for best results
- Ensure all ingredients are fully combined for evenly flavored meatballs.
- Make the meatballs the same size for even cooking.
- Keep an eye on the meatballs to prevent them from drying out.
- Use fresh parsley and garlic for the best flavor.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the honey and Sriracha to your preference.
Variations
- substitute ground turkey for a leaner option
- add more Sriracha or a pinch of cayenne pepper
- mix in some shredded cheese into the meatball mixture
- add a splash of soy sauce and ginger to the sauce
Serving suggestions
For a party, serve them with toothpicks as a standalone appetizer. If you’re making a meal, consider pairing them with mashed potatoes, steamed rice, or a fresh salad. They also go great with a side of coleslaw or roasted vegetables for a well-rounded dinner option.
If you are serving these while entertaining I like to keep them in a slow cooker on the warm setting to keep them warm throughout the party.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. They reheat well in the microwave or on the stove.
If you want to keep them longer, freeze the meatballs before tossing them in the sauce. When ready to eat, defrost, reheat, and then coat with fresh sauce.
