If you use ranch seasoning as much as I do, this copycat ranch seasoning is something you need to have on hand. It comes together in just a few minutes using pantry staples you probably already have.

I use it all the time in recipes like my taco ranch chicken wings and bacon ranch crack pasta salad, so keeping a homemade version in the pantry just makes sense. No more emergency trips for a seasoning packet. Just mix and store!

Why I love this recipe

I love this recipe because it’s so low-effort but so useful. I always have these ingredients in my pantry, and I love skipping the store-bought packets with all the additives. It’s fresher, more flavorful, and customizable. I keep a jar in my spice drawer at all times now!

  • dried parsley
  • dried dill
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • salt
  • pepper

Step by step

  1. Place all the ingredients into a small bowl and stir to combine.
  2. OPTIONAL: Transfer the mixture to a spice grinder, working in batches if needed, and pulse for around 10 seconds or until the herbs are finely ground and no large bits remain.
  3. Pour the seasoning into an airtight container, such as a mason jar or spice jar, and store it in a cool, dry pantry for up to 6 months.

Label the jar with the date so you can keep track of how fresh it is. Homemade spice blends are best used within six months.

Tips for best results

  • Use a spice grinder if desired to get a fine, even blend. It helps the flavors mix well and gives the seasoning a smooth texture.
  • Skip the food processor. It’s usually too big for small batches like this and might not blend the spices evenly.
  • Use two tablespoons of this mix as a substitute for one store-bought ranch packet.

Serving suggestions

I use this homemade ranch mix in so many ways. Two tablespoons of the seasoning is the equivalent of one 1-ounce packet of ranch seasoning in recipes.

To make ranch dressing, mix 2 tablespoons of the mix with 1 cup of milk or buttermilk and 1 cup of mayonnaise.

Mix it into 16-ounces of sour cream or Greek yogurt for a quick veggie dip, or sprinkle it over chicken and potatoes before roasting. It’s also tasty stirred into whipped mashed potatoes, casseroles, or pasta salad. And yes, it’s amazing with popcorn.

Storage

Store the ranch seasoning mix in a dry, airtight container (I keep mine in a mason jar in the pantry.) It will stay fresh for up to 6 months as long as there’s no moisture.
