Why I love this recipe
- First off, it’s incredibly easy to make. With just a handful of simple ingredients and a few easy steps, you can whip up a mouthwatering cinnamon pie that will have everyone asking for seconds.
- The combination of cream cheese, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a touch of nutmeg creates a rich, indulgent flavor that’s simply irresistible. Trust me, once you try it, you’ll understand why it’s become a staple in my dessert repertoire.
- This cinnamon custard pie is an old-fashioned recipe that’s a classic for a reason, just like our cinnamon apple pie with crumb crust, fudge pie, and coconut pie, which all came from my own grandmother’s recipes.
Ingredients
- cream cheese
- light brown sugar
- eggs
- heavy cream
- all-purpose flour
- ground cinnamon
- vanilla extract
- salt
- ground nutmeg
- premade pie crust or homemade pie crust
- powdered sugar for dusting, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream for topping
Step by step
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Cream Cheese and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened cream cheese and light brown sugar using an electric mixer. Beat for about 4 minutes or until the mixture is light and fluffy, being sure to scrape the edges of the bowl as needed.
- Incorporate Eggs: Add the eggs to the cream cheese mixture and continue mixing until well combined.
- Add Remaining Ingredients: Pour in the heavy cream, flour, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, salt, and ground nutmeg. Mix until the batter is smooth and all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Prepare Pie Crust: Place the pie dough in a pie dish and gently press it down to form the crust.
- Fill Pie Crust: Pour the prepared creamy cinnamon filling into the pie crust, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake to Perfection: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the center is just set. The top should be golden brown and the edges slightly puffed.
- Cool and Refrigerate: Allow the pie to cool completely, then refrigerate it to chill. For best results, let it sit at room temperature for about an hour before serving.
- Serve and Enjoy: Once chilled, slice the pie into generous portions and serve. For an extra touch of sweetness, dust with powdered sugar or add a dollop of whipped cream on top before serving.
Tips for best results
- Be sure to scrape the sides of the bowl as you mix the ingredients to get every bit of that cinnamon pie filling incorporated.
- You can make your own pie crust for this recipe or make it by purchased a pre-made pie crust, usually found in the refrigerated biscuit section at the grocery store. You can also use pre-made frozen crusts, just be sure to follow the package instructions for thawing.
- If the edges of the pie start to brown before the center is set, cover them with aluminum foil to keep from over-browning.
Variations
Want to switch things up? Try adding a sprinkle of toasted pecans or a drizzle of caramel sauce on top for extra flavor and crunch.
