A classic autumn recipe-this 6 ingredient Easy Old Fashioned Apple Crisp with crispy oat topping is easy to make and bakes in just 30 minutes!!

Sorry y'all-I'm in full fall mode. The weather here in Georgia maxed out in the upper 70s the last few days which is super cool for this time of year so I'm telling myself it's okay to post everything apple and pumpkins for the next few months-okay with you?
I was wondering what kind of recipe to post for you all this week when I realized that the fruit bowl on my kitchen table was overflowing with apples (sidenote-why do my kids always want whatever type of fruit I DON'T have in the house but then when I stock up they ignore it??)
Since the kiddos weren't eating them raw I certainly couldn't let them go to waste so I whipped up this super easy, classic Apple Crisp recipe. Only six ingredients and ready in less than an hour start to finish!
The Best Apple Crisp Recipe
I've shared other versions of this recipe before (like my peanut butter apple crisp) but I guess it never occurred to me to share the very basic apple crisp they were built off of because it's so easy.
But then I rethought it and realized that sometimes those are the very best recipes to share-the super back-to-basics ones just like your grandparents would have made. Are you ready?
How to Make Apple Crisp
Core the apples then slice thinly. (I leave the peel on mine but you are welcome to peel them if you prefer.) Place the apples and cinnamon in a large bowl and stir to evenly coat. Pour cinnamon-coated apples into prepared pan.
Mix flour, oats and brown sugar in the large bowl. Stir in butter and mix until uniform, then pour oat mixture evenly over apples.
Bake 30 minutes or until golden brown. Serve this delicious old fashioned apple crisp warm from the oven with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
What Apples are Best for Apple Crisp?
I prefer Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples because they stand up to baking well. Here is an article from Bon Appetit on the best apples for baking.
Tips for the Perfect Old Fashioned Apple Crisp
- Use unsalted butter.
- Slice apples very thin to ensure they bake properly.
- Granny Smith or Honey Crisp apples are the best bet for this recipe.
- This recipe is best served fresh. You can store it for up to 3 days in the refrigerator but the topping gets soft when stored. Trust me, eat it up immediately for the best taste!
