Scale
- Chocolate cake (homemade, store-bought, or made from box cake mix)
- 1/3 cup chocolate frosting (we suggest our chocolate buttercream frosting)
- lollipop sticks/cake pop sticks – find these at the grocery or craft store
- melting chocolate, almond bark, or chocolate candy melts
- sprinkles or decorations of your choice
Instructions
- If using homemade cake, let the cake cool completely before starting the recipe. Crumble the chocolate cake into fine crumbs using your hands in a large bowl or using a food processor.
- Mix in about 1/3 cup chocolate frosting with the crumbled cake, adding more as needed, until the mixture is moist and holds together when pressed.
- Roll the cake mixture into small balls, about the size of a walnut, and place them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.
- Insert a lollipop stick into each cake ball. Place the chocolate cake balls in the freezer for about 15 minutes to firm up.
- Melt the chocolate or candy melts according to the package instructions in a medium bowl, then dip each cake pop into the melted chocolate coating, allowing any excess chocolate to drip off before placing back on the baking sheet.
- Decorate the cake pops with sprinkles or other decorations while the chocolate coating is still wet.
- Place the decorated cake pops upright in a foam block or cake pop stand to set completely.
