Description

Yes you can cook rice in a slow cooker! This easy recipe shows you exactly how to make perfect rice using your Crock Pot with just a few minutes prep!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups white rice
  • 4 cups water
  • pinch of salt
  • butter, olive oil, or nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice thoroughly until water runs clear.
  2. Butter, oil, or spray the interior of the slow cooker to prevent rice from sticking.
  3. Add rice, water, and salt to the slow cooker. Cook on low for 2 1/2 hours.
  4. Fluff rice with a fork and serve.

Notes

  • Always rinse the rice until the water is clear before cooking to remove excess starch.
  • If you are using brown rice the cooking time may need to be longer.
  • Substitute chicken broth or beef broth for the water for more flavor.
  • Remove the rice from the slow cooker after it is done to avoid over-cooking.
  • You can double or triple the recipe by always using the ratio of one cup of rice to two cups of water…cooking time may be longer for large batches depending on your crock pot.
  • NOTE: Slow cookers can have variations. If your slow cooker cooks unevenly you should stir the rice half way through cooking. If your cooker does not hold heat well cooking time will be longer.
