Description

Fudgy chocolate pudding cake separates into two layers as it bakes, a rich chocolate cake and rich pudding sauce. If you’re a chocolate lover you are going to fall in love with this old fashioned recipe!


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, divided
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups very hot water OR brewed coffee

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray an 8 by 8 inch baking dish with nonstick baking spray (affiliate link).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, 3 tablespoons cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add milk, vanilla, and melted butter and stir to combine-the batter will be very thick. Pour into the baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl combine the brown sugar and remaining 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder.
  5. Sprinkle the brown sugar and cocoa mixture over the batter then top with the chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the hot coffee or water over the cake but DO NOT stir.
  7. Bake for 40 minutes or until the center is just barely set.
  8. Allow to cool 5 -10 minutes before serving (preferably with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!)
