Description

It’s easy to make homemade Au Jus with just a few simple ingredients! Whether you are making beef stew or French dip sandwiches, au jus maxes out the flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/4 cup beef drippings
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 cup red wine (optional)
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat drippings in a small saucepan over medium-high heat until completely liquified.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add beef broth a little at a time, whisking constantly. Add wine and increase heat to high and bring to a boil.
  4. Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

Store leftover au jus in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
