Description

Candied Yams are a classic Southern dish with mashed yams combined with butter and brown sugar and topped with sweet toasted marshmallows. This Thanksgiving side dish recipe is fast and easy so you can easily enjoy it year-round!


Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 40 ounce can yams
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Drain yams and add to an 8 b y 8 casserole dish.
  3. Mash to your desired consistency with a potato masher or fork.
  4. Add melted butter and brown sugar to the yams and stir to mix.
  5. Sprinkle mixture with cinnamon and top with mini marshmallows.
  6. Spray the underside of a piece of foil with nonstick spray to prevent sticking to the marshmallows and wrap the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes covered. Remove foil and bake another 5-10 minutes or until marshmallows are golden brown.

Notes

If preparing with fresh sweet potatoes, peel and dice potatoes and boil until fork tender prior to using in the recipe. Finished dish will be slightly less sweet.
