Description

Oven baked Tri-Tip Steak is seasoned with a blend of spices and herbs and perfectly roasted in under an hour.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3-pound tri-tip roast
  • 2 tablespoons olive or avocado oil
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • fresh parsley for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the steak seasoning together.
  3. Trim any excess fat from the tri-tip, if desired, and pat the roast dry with a paper towel. Rub the roast all over with the prepared steak seasoning.
  4. On the stove top, heat oil in a large oven-safe or cast iron skillet over high heat. Once hot, sear the roast for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and a crisp crust forms.
  5. Transfer the hot cast iron skillet with the tri-tip to the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 10-15 minutes per pound, depending on your desired level of doneness.
  6. Once cooked to your liking, remove the tri-tip from the oven and loosely tent it with foil.
  7. Let the roast rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing. This resting period allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
  8. Transfer the tri-tip to a cutting board and slice it against the grain for maximum tenderness.
