- 1 lb. ground breakfast sausage
- (1) 8-count refrigerated biscuits
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- pinch of red pepper flakes
- 2 cups whole milk
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
- In a large skillet, cook and crumble the sausage until browned. Drain any excess grease and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1โ2 minutes.
- Add the salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, then slowly whisk in the milk until smooth.
- Continue cooking until the gravy thickens, stirring often.
- Cut each biscuit into quarters and arrange them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Stir about ยผ of the sausage into the gravy.
- Sprinkle the remaining sausage evenly over the biscuits, followed by the shredded cheese.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream until combined, then pour over the casserole.
- Pour the gravy evenly over everything.
- Bake for 35โ40 minutes, or until the center is set and the biscuits are fully cooked through.
Notes
Check doneness by inserting a fork in the center; the biscuit pieces should be soft but not doughy.
