Homemade hummus takes less than 5 minutes to make and is so rich and flavorful, you’ll never go back to store bought!
Last week my Facebook news feed was blowing up with people sharing the news of the hummus recall due to fears of Listeria. One friend replied to someone suggesting she make her own with “nobody has time for that,” and I knew from reading that thought that I needed to share my super easy homemade hummus recipe here on the blog. This hummus takes literally less than 5 minutes start to finish and once you know the base recipe you can customize it in so many different ways. Not only does it save you money to make your own-you don’t have to worry about contamination or preservatives being added in!
Ingredients:
- 15 oz can garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
- ¼ cup tahini (ground sesame seeds)
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 tbsp minced garlic (more if you’re a garlic lover like I am!)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- pinch cayenne pepper
To make simply combine all ingredients in a food processor and mix until smooth. I make mine in the single serve container on my Ninja blender (affiliate link) and it comes out perfectly every time! If you want to get fancy you can garnish with additional garlic, cayenne pepper or green onion. Refrigerate in a sealed container for up to one week.

Looks yummy! 🙂
I’ve never made my own hummus before, but now that I know how easy it is and that it can be done in 5 minutes I have no excuse! Can’t wait to try!
My husband has made hummus before and it is really easy. I can’t wait to try your recipe.
This is the recipe I’ve been using, too. It’s yummy! I’ve had some in the fridge longer than a week, and it still seems OK, but I guess it’s time to make some more. We like it with veggies and pita chips/crackers.
My family loves hummus! We actually just had some last night with baby carrots. Definitely trying this recipe, thanks!
